Lakedale Resort: getting the word out about getting out in style. A noteworthy travel trend developing over the years is the more glamorous approach to camping, aka “glamping.” Yes, you heard right. Thousands of hotels around the world are touting luxury yurts, teepees and canvas tents—many with furniture and heating and some with butlers, private chefs and 1,200-count linens. One of the pioneers is Lakedale Resort, a rustic San Juan Island resort set on 82 wooded acres, which installed its first canvas cabin in 2007. One year later they tapped GreenRubino to tell their story. The GreenRubino PR team immediately recognized the emerging trend as something to capitalize upon. Key journalists were alerted, newsworthy “glamping” experiences were developed and, over the past four years, Lakedale has been featured as a premier Pacific Northwest destination both nationally and regionally by The Today Show, Travel + Leisure, Forbes, USA Today, WSJ, The Magazine and many more. Not to mention the cover of both Sunset and 425 and a profile of the hotel’s owner in Entrepreneur for recognizing the trend and capitalizing upon it in the early stages. And each spring when the season begins, record numbers of happy glampers venture into the Lakedale glampground which now boasts 15 glampsites. We’ll stop there at the “glamping” references.
